Vol59.19 of MCN reported on a Federal Govt release that rider tolls have fallen while other road user fatalities are on the rise. Good riding !
The Mar 09 – Feb 10 figures were 221 compared with 251 for the previous year. 12% reduction. Of that 210 were male rider fatalities, down 10%. And females only 11, down 35% (compared with the previous 12 month period).
Apparently the 40-59 are still over represented and had 14% increase while all other age groups subtracted. Most noticeable was the 21-25 reducing by 42%.
Car drivers +5%, Care Passengers +8%, Pedestrians +8%, cyclists +7%. Total road toll went up 2.3%
Since 2005 motorcycle related deaths are still on the increase but now only by 1.7%. All other road users are decreasing. So we still have a little way to go overall !
