The 2010-2011 ACT Budget was released today (here)
Chief Minister and Minister for Transport, Jon Stanhope, announced (here) the $97m package as part of that budget. The media release suggests that focus will be on public transport (bus) and road extensions and maintenance. The package also includes the introduction of point-to-point speed camera’s for Canberra.

Mr Stanhope said the Government would introduce Canberra’s first ever point-to-point road safety cameras with $1.350 million funded in the Budget, adding to the Government’s suite of measures to reduce road trauma and save lives.
“Point-to-point cameras will be installed at up to six major arterial roads where the incidence of speeding is high and the consequences of a crash at high speeds are potentially catastrophic.”

This initiative will deliver phased installation of up to six point to point cameras along major arterial roads to encourage drivers to adhere to speed limits. This will improve road safety consistent with the ACT Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan directed toward a Vision Zero.
