Would you ride 16 kms for someone in need?
The Canberra motorcycle community support for the Motorcycle Riders Association Annual Blanket Run supporting the Salvation Army has been fantastic, and after 31 years we are proud to announce that we have outgrown Garema Place!
So we are moving our destination for presentations to a wonderful location where we can continue to grow and accommodate the 600+ motorcycles that participate in our Blanket Run, to Kings Park near the National Carillon.
As usual, there will be coffee brewing and bacon and egg rolls from 8.30am at Old Parliament House, on Saturday 12 May. “Form up” is at 10.00am, and we will leave Old Parliament House and ride along Adelaide Avenue to the roundabout at Phillip and back along Adelaide Ave to the exit that takes us onto State Circle. From there we travel to Kings Ave and across the bridge, turning left into the National Carillon.
A distance of 16 kms.
The MRA would like to thank the Australian Federal Police for their support on the day.
There will be a coffee and food van located in the grounds of Kings Park.
Bring new warm blankets, cash, and non-perishable foods.
Gather your friends and come and join in, and help the Salvation Army in supporting the Canberra community.
Every little bit helps.

What a shame. Probably lost a rider here. I like many, met friends and family in Garema Place and had lunch. Garaema Place is easily accessiable for those who can not ride/drive as well, particularly important in my household.
I guess this will be the same for the toy ride as well.
Yes, everything does happen for a reason……
Having 400+ motorcycles travelling in a mass ride over Commonwealth Bridge and into Garema Place has certainly heightened our visibility to the general public and increased awareness not only for the charity events that we support, but for all motorcyclists in the ACT.
The MRA ACT Committee were disappointed to learn that were no longer able to access Garema Place.
There are certainly many advantages to maximising our visibility in Garema Place.
However, the increasing numbers of motorcyclists participating in and supporting these events has meant that we needed to find a new venue.
We are still visible to the public.
We need your support to be seen, and your voice to be heard.

As they say, everything happens for a reason, and I have no doubt that there are reasons for the change to the location of the Blanket Run. However, everyone to whom I have mentioned this has expressed disappointment; specifically, people have been quick to note that the real value of having everyone in middle of town was exactly that — the fact that it was in the middle of town ensured that what we were doing was noticed as a significant initiative. (There are those, including me, who would also like to see the ride more like a Ulysses AGM Grand Parade, travelling through major thoroughfares to maximise visiblity, for exactly the same reason.) The proposed change to Kings Park signifies a major shift from town centre to a location which is not part of the wider community. A parade and get-together of 500 or more motorcycles and riders is a pretty impressive sight for Canberra, even leaving aside the charity aspect. It seems a shame that we are to be shunted out to the unpopulated fringes. But, as I said, I’m sure there was a reason…
