Recreational Riding Day

Jul ’09

09:30

25th July 09:30am to 4:30pm

Fairbairn Park Motorsport’s Complex

Hi Everyone,

Attached is a flyer for the upcoming rec riding day. An opportunity to come out and bring your family for some fun in the dirt. The only limitations are that riders should be over 4 years old; bikes should be properly maintained; and an acceptable level of protective clothing is worn (helmets, gloves and if possible boots. Please note sneakers are not appropriate footwear.)

Please print off the flyer and spread the word as the more riders we get the quicker we can expand and make it better for you.

Ride Safe and have fun,

Pete

Dirt Bike Riders

NOW UP AND RUNNING

The Canberra Branch of the DSMRA and the MRA ACT have been lobbying the ACT Government for a number of years to get some land and resources allocated to replace those removed or made unavailable for Off-Road recreational motorcycle (dirt bike) riding.  Well in the 2009 Budget $500,000 has been made available for a Recreational Riding Facility in line with the Election promise by Planning Minister Andrew Barr, the only catch is getting things moving at a speed faster than a glacier during an Ice Age.

Fortunately the ACT Motorcycle Club (ACT MCC) has come to our rescue providing a number of facilities at their Fairbairn Complex for us to use an Interim base for riders.  The ACT MCC has given us use of their Enduro, Intermediate, and Pee Wee tracks for controlled use by recreational riders.  This will allow families to bring their kids and older riders to trailer their bikes to the facility and enjoy legal off-road recreational riding. Please ensure you have an approved helmet, good gloves and suitable footwear (sneakers or joggers don’t ride on the track).

Remote Area First Aid course

The ACT branch of the DSMRA has now received information from the Red Cross regarding Remote Area First Aid. (as raised at previous meetings).

It is a 3 day course that costs $230.00 per person or $275.00 per person if split up over 3 weekends.  We need a minimum of 10 people to attend for this course to run.  The Red Cross will give a 10% discount if 12-16 people attend.

I have spoken with Margot Hurrell (First Aid Training Coordinator ACT) and have made tentative bookings for 2 weekends in August 2009. The dates are (8,9,10 August) and (29,30,31 August).  The DSMRA prefers the latter dates.

The DSMRA will give a 50% subsidy to paid-up members attending this course, thereby bringing the cost down to $115.00 per member if only 10 people attend. If we get a higher number attending, the 10% discount from the Red Cross will bring the cost down to $103.50 per person.

Members from other clubs are welcome to attend this course as well, but the DSMRA will not be able to offer the 50% subsidy to those individuals.

Should they wish to join the DSMRA, they will be eligible for the subsidy.

Full course content shall forwarded to interested persons as soon as possible.

I encourage members to partake in this course as the knowledge gained may make all the difference in a serious/emergency situation, especially in remote locations.
